The itinerary proposes a trip through the territorial strip at the centre
of the region, with a visit from Perugia that extends towards the West
to the Trasimeno Lake, and towards the East towards the highplanes of
Colfiorito, and towards the South to the area of Spoletino, with an indepth
exploration of the basins of some of the most important cities of modern
day Umbria: alongside Perugia and Spoleto the itinerary also includes
the smaller areas of Assisi, Spello, Bettona, Bevagna, Foligno and Trevi,
which are certainly no less important than the two large cities in terms
of art and history.

The area in question represents the meeting and synergy
point of two different environments in terms of ethnics and culture, as
they were before the Roman, Umbrian and Etruscan conquests in terms of
their borders, if on the one hand, thanks to the nearby Trasimeno lake,
it participated with intense relations with relationships with other glorious
cities of Etruria, Chiusi and Cortona, on the other hand through its two
territorial offshoots of Arna and Vettona beyond the Tevere, as an extremely
important control and contact point in the Umbrian world, playing the
role of a cultural interface.

The centres of Assisi, Spello, Bevagna, Foligno, Trevi and Spoleto were
however part of the territorial structure to the left of the Tevere, populated
by the Umbrian, whose cultural heart may without a doubt be represented
by the "castellieri" of Colfiorito. This itinerary can be read with a
view to capturing differences, analogies and contrasts in which, through
the archeological emergencies, be they placed within passages of urban
visits or extra-moenia in territories surrounding the cities in which
contrasts and divergences are perceived, but alongside these the connections
and affinities between these areas. This itinerary is certainly very complex
due to its extension and the richness of archeological evidence and for
this reason it can therefore be articulated in three circuits, which altogether
offer a range of varied situations in terms of the archelogical-scenery
profile.
